Protecting kids with The Cyber Guardian
|

THOMAS: 'We include
all the good stuff, keep the
bad stuff out and
give parents peace of mind.' |
PETALING JAYA:
Australia-based The Cyber Guardian has unveiled its
latest parental control software, simply called The
Cyber Guardian (TCG), which aims to provide a safe and
stress-free Internet environment for children.
"We include all the good stuff, keep the bad stuff out
and give parents peace of mind," said Max Thomas,
managing director of The Cyber Guardian.
The software sits at the Internet Service Provider
(ISP) level and cannot be bypassed by users. Once the
user has subscribed to the service via their ISP,
account holders using any device (including any 3G
mobile device) will have access and content validated
by TCG wherever they are.
"All requests from subscribers, after identification
by the ISP, are routed through our software and
validated based on a combination of a white list and
user defined parameters," explained Thomas. TCG has
over 15 million white-listed webpages, which have been
vetted by the company.
"The list is growing as we add more webpages and
constantly scan existing content to ensure that the
integrity of a website is not compromised by changes
to that website," he said.
TCG also comes with its own search engine, which
allows for a "safe" search within the database of
approved websites.
The white list excludes pornography, gratuitous
violence, illicit drugs, terrorism, gambling and
suicide websites. Social networking websites are also
excluded, however parents may grant access to these on
an individual basis via the Parent's Dashboard
feature.
The company said the Parent's Dashboard provides
useful features to manage your children's accounts.
For example, it allows parents to monitor the content
and the time each child spends on the computer.
Each user within the home has their own login, so
access restrictions can be tailored to an individual
level. When an adult logs into TCG, he or she can
access the "open" Internet while kids automatically
default to the TCG white-listed webpages.
There is also a modified white list for children under
the age of seven. A parent, however, can add
additional content or block content for their children
on an individual basis via the Parent's Dashboard.
Another feature of the TCG is preventing kids from
changing the computer settings and downloading
potentially malicious files or programs. TCG also
allows parents to set time limits for using the
computer. In this case, the parents can set and change
time limits as often as they like, depending on each
child.
"Parents can even set time limits for a particular
website," said Thomas. NGT Solutions (M) Sdn Bhd is
the distributor of the TCG software. The company said
it is currently negotiating with several local ISPs on
the implementation of the software.

White House is catching up on Privacy, Security and
Identity Management
A document issued by the
US Government – White
House on “National Strategy for Trusted
Identities in Cyberspace” .
*****
A secure cyberspace is
critical to our prosperity. We use the Internet and
other online environments to increase our
productivity, as a platform for innovation, and as a
venue in which to create new businesses “Our digital
infrastructure, therefore, is a strategic national
asset, and protecting it—while safeguarding privacy
and civil liberties—is a national security priority”
and an economic necessity. By addressing threats in
this environment, we will help individuals protect
themselves in cyberspace and enable both the private
sector and government to offer more services online
As a Nation, we are addressing many of the technical
and policy shortcomings that have led to insecurity in
cyberspace Among these shortcomings is the online
authentication of people and devices: the President’s
Cyberspace Policy Review established trusted
identities as a cornerstone of improved cybersecurity.
In the current online
environment, individuals are asked to maintain dozens
of different usernames and passwords, one for each
website with which they interact The complexity of
this approach is a burden to individuals, and it
encourages behavior—like the reuse of passwords—that
makes online fraud and identity theft easier At the
same time, online businesses are faced with
ever-increasing costs for managing customer accounts,
the consequences of online fraud, and the loss of
business that results from individuals’ unwillingness
to create yet another account Moreover, both
businesses and governments are unable to offer many
services online, because they cannot effectively
identify the individuals with whom they interact
Spoofed websites, stolen passwords, and compromised
accounts are all symptoms of inadequate authentication
mechanism.
Just as there is a need for methods to reliably
authenticate individuals, there are many Internet
transactions for which identification and
authentication is not needed, or the information
needed is limited It is vital to maintain the capacity
for anonymity and pseudonym in Internet transactions
in order to enhance individuals’ privacy and otherwise
support civil liberties Nonetheless, individuals and
businesses need to be able to check each other’s
identity for certain types of sensitive transactions,
such as online banking or accessing electronic health
records.
The National Strategy for
Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC or Strategy)
charts a course for the public and private sectors to
collaborate to raise the level of trust associated
with the identities of individuals, organizations,
networks, services, and devices involved in online
transactions.

NGT SOLUTIONS LAUNCHES MALAYSIA’S FIRST MOBILE
SECURITY APPLICATION
Petaling Jaya, 1 April 2011: NGT Solutions, one of
Malaysia’s specialists in voice and data compression
technology, today launched Peanut, the first mobile
security application in the country that protects data
communications at handset level by encrypting
information stored on the phone and shared between
users.
The increasing dependence on mobile phones to store
and send confidential information has necessitated a
need to secure data against unauthorized access. There
seems to be a sudden demand and concern on mobile
security by users especially in the areas of mobile
banking, mobile health and mobile insurance.
“Encryption is done prior to and during data delivery
to eliminate security concerns raised by unprotected
access to a phone’s interface that bounces data off
international servers,” says Datuk J.L. Solomon,
Executive Chairman of NGT Solutions.
Peanut’s ability to password-protect information and
encrypt data on the phone’s handset provides privacy
and security useful to government, military, business,
law enforcement, and general mobile users. It offers
services unavailable on native phone applications
including identity management, private contacts,
message organisation, restricted messages, remote
wipeout, backup, restore, auto-expiration, scheduled
message delivery, activation and deactivation,
anti-piracy, and traceability. Specific implements can
also be customized to protect communication between
individuals in private groups.
Peanut also ensures text messages are protected during
transmission by providing a secure over-the-air (OTA)
channel. This allows the exchange of private and
encrypted messages between Peanut users who can only
access the information by keying in the right
password. The application locks for a limited time if
the wrong password is entered three times.
“Peanut was designed to ensure maximum data protection
for users,” says Solomon. “Security threats are common
and this application affords them protection without
compromising the telcos’ service efficiency and
quality.”
According to the latest statistics, the mobile
population in Malaysia currently exceeds 28 million
users.
Peanut is written as a Java application but is
customized to interact with various Smart phone
operating systems including RIM (BlackBerry), Symbian
(Nokia, LG, Sony), Android, and J2ME devices. Support
for iPhone and Microsoft Windows will be launched
soon. Peanut is 1MB in size and can be quickly
downloaded via www.ngst.com.my/peanut.
NGT Solutions is currently in discussions with
operators to offer this solution on a prepaid basis
which will soon be available through a payment engine
with multiple payment mechanisms.

Dialogic Optimizes Mobile Backhaul for Service Providers
 |
|
I-Gate 4000 SBO MB
doubles bandwidth for voice and data traffic
across existing mobile backhaul networks
Enables service providers, enterprises and developers to unleash the profit from video, voice and data for advanced networks
|
San Jose, CA - February 8,
2011 -
Dialogic Inc. (NASDAQ: DLGC), a
leading provider of communications
technologies that power advanced
networks, today launched a mobile
backhaul optimization solution for
service providers, the
Dialogic® I-Gate® 4000 Session
Bandwidth Optimizer Mobile Backhaul (SBO
MB). The I-Gate 4000 SBO MB
provides for voice and data stream
optimization for 3G, 2G and enterprise
traffic. Service providers can now
leverage existing network
infrastructure to quickly and
cost-effectively
double the bandwidth in the
typical Radio Access Network (RAN),
providing for improved customer
experience as well as the ability to
significantly increase the subscriber
base, enhancing both short and
long-term growth.
"We tested Dialogic's solution both
in the lab and in a field trial, and
saw a significant bandwidth savings in
our network," said Cayetano Carbajo,
Technology Director at Telefónica.
"Not only were we impressed with the
quality of experience, but the
solution really does take bandwidth
optimization to the next level. It
delivers two-fold benefits --
significant cost savings and growth
opportunities for new subscribers."
Today's demand for mobile data
imposes increasing bandwidth
requirements on service provider
networks, mostly on the backhaul
network. In order to maintain
profitability, mobile operators need
to minimize their backhaul network
investment and operational
expenditures (OPEX), all while
expanding their network capacity. The
I-Gate 4000 SBO MB addresses this
issue by reducing OPEX through the
consolidation and bandwidth
optimization of voice and data
traffic, thereby reducing transport
requirements. By doubling throughput
over existing backhaul links, the
solution can also reduce capital
expenditures (CAPEX) by eliminating
the need to purchase additional
equipment.
"Building on our thirty years of
experience in providing bandwidth
optimization, this solution is a
natural extension of our product
offering," said Doug Sabella,
President and Chief Operating Officer
for Dialogic. "We understand the
challenges service providers face and
created an innovative, yet practical
solution with service providers'
budget and time constraints in mind.
We're excited to deliver this solution
to Telefonica and look forward to more
successful deployments in the near
future."
As the only 1U platform to provide
full redundancy for hardware, software
and network failures, the I-Gate 4000
SBO MB provides high reliability for
customers. It supports a wide range of
traffic types and interfaces,
including IP- and ATM-based iub, Abis,
Native IP, VoIP, PCM signals and
Pseudowire (TDM over IP). Topologies
for both Microwave and Satellite
transmissions are also supported,
including Point-to-Point,
Point-to-Multipoint, Drop & Continue,
Ring and Data Offload.
Learn more about the I-Gate 4000
SBO MB at the upcoming
Mobile World Congress show,
February 14-17 in Barcelona, Spain,
Pavilion on the Avenue - AV103, where
product experts from Dialogic will be
available to meet with you.

Dialogic and Veraz Networks Complete Merger
Company's New Name is Dialogic and
New NASDAQ Ticker Symbol is DLGC
Enables service providers, enterprises and developers to unleash the profit from video, voice and data for advanced networks
San Jose, CA - October 1, 2010 - Dialogic Corporation, a pioneer in enabling interactive mobile video services and applications, and Veraz Networks, a leading provider of bandwidth optimization and next generation switching products, today announced the completion of the merger of the two companies.
At Veraz's special meeting of shareholders held on September 30, 2010, shareholders voted to approve three proposals: a merger with Dialogic Corporation; changing the name of the company to Dialogic Inc.; and a 5 for 1 reverse stock split of Veraz's issued and outstanding common shares resulting in approximately 31 million shares outstanding as of today.
The merged company, headquartered in San Jose, CA, is now named Dialogic and is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol (NASDAQ: DLGC). Nick Jensen leads the company as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (formerly Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Dialogic), and Doug Sabella is the President and Chief Operating Officer (formerly Veraz President and Chief Executive Officer). The new Dialogic® product portfolio enables service providers, enterprises and developers to unleash the profit of video, voice and data for advanced networks.
"While the capability of mobile networks around the world has been steadily expanding, the future will bring even greater demands on these networks due to the unprecedented growth in global mobile data and video traffic," said Jensen. "By combining Dialogic's proven expertise in enabling applications for voice and video with Veraz's leadership in voice and data session control, security and transport, we've created a company that gives our customers the technologies to maximize the multimedia capabilities of 3G/4G networks. In fact, over 2 billion mobile subscribers today communicate on the networks of service providers who have built their solutions on Dialogic products."
The merger of Dialogic and Veraz enhances the company's worldwide service and support offerings and creates an extensive global customer base that includes some of the largest customers in the service provider communications market, along with greater financial resources to pursue opportunities in markets throughout the world.
"As a customer of both Dialogic and Veraz, we believe that the merger of the two companies will continue to enable iBasis to meet the ever changing demands of the networks so we can connect voice, data and video calls to and from all types of fixed and wireless networks," said Ajay Joseph, CTO at iBasis, one of the largest carriers of international voice calls in the world and a division of Royal KPN N.V. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with Dialogic and are pleased that their expanded product offering will help us further enhance our role as a global leader in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)."
"The combined Dialogic and Veraz is positioned to provide service providers with not only stand-alone media, including video, signaling and security solutions, but also integrated media, signaling and security which will make them competitive in the marketplace," said Diane Myers, Directing Analyst, Service Provider VoIP and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) at Infonetics Research, a premier international market research and consulting firm specializing in data networking and telecom. "Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and media servers will be the main growth engines for the carrier VoIP market in 2010. For example, the SBC market is accelerating, with worldwide 2Q10 revenue up 27 percent sequentially and up 70 percent over 2Q09, a signal that IP-to-IP connectivity is continuing to overtake IP-to-TDM connectivity."
"With the merger of Veraz and Dialogic now complete, we are excited to start as a new company with a tremendous product portfolio, and we envision many opportunities for service providers, including their ability to offer enterprise solutions through initiatives such as cloud computing," said Sabella. "Dialogic will have an unparalleled ability to deliver and manage voice, video and data services on an end to end basis and to offer our customers a broader range of solutions."
